Aerial Seeding

By December 10, 2019July 14th, 2020No Comments

Aerial seeding into standing crops can be a very fast and convenient method of getting cover crops seeded prior to crop harvest. Aerial seeding requires timely moisture for best results, and therefore works best under abundant rainfall or center pivot irrigation. When broadcasting seed, it is recommended to increase the seeding rate 25-40% as compared to seeding with a drill or a planter. Aerial seeding in corn works best when the bottom leaves are dry up to the ear.

Aerial seeding into soybeans works best when 20-25% of the soybean leaves have turned yellow. Although this method is fast and convenient, results are highly dependent on moisture and weather conditions, thus results tend to be more sporadic.
